Sorry Jack.
I don't want a magtube like that.
I want it running under the barrel.A45 degree spope would feed ammo up into the barrel..
My idea was basically the same,but with a full lenght sleeve,
but since the sleeve needs to slide back, I still feel it takes up too much space.

Whoever said the sleeve needed to slide
back - or even forward for that matter.
Have some kind of pawl in a curved track to convert the linear motion of the pump action into a rotary motion for twisting the sleeve, which has a hole on one side. When pumped back, that lines up with a hole in the barrel breech, pumped forwards, it twists again so it's not lined up. The pump action could also reset the hammer valve if you need.
It's a way round your solution. Usually if pressed for length in a loading mechanism, start thinking rotary rather than linear.

I second Rag's suggestion, also airheadnoob's comment might be inane and copy-pasted but it reminded me of
this designthat looked like it worked well
