Very well made, love the attention to detail and the style in general.

very nice cannon there, it really takes some dedication to finish something to that kind of standard without taking shortcuts.
A strap sounds like a nice addition, I think that would work very well with a laser instead of your current optics.
One point from your post:

I think this is a bit harsh, I dont thing anybody actually intends to go to war with their creations, its just a way of classifying them and showing people what there main design goals are, in this case accuracy.
Yes sniper refers to the role whereas sniper rifle refers to the weapon, but as you said yourself we can't call them the latter if they're not rifled. What terminology would you like instead, 'long barrelled smoothbored pneumatic launcher with optical sighting accessories and other additions designed to enhance accuracy slightly over a normal spudgun' , doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it

Very impressive. Your short thesis didn't exactly leave me with many questions, so I'll go off on an unimportant rant or two...

IMO, it's not quite "steampunk" - steampunk is a bit more than just painting something in a copper paint.
And being completely honest, I'm a little too familiar with copper that I could be fooled - I opened this thread and immediately thought "Copper paint". It's not bad, but copper doesn't actually look like that at any degree of polish or oxidisation.

Actually, to be steampunk, you'd do better with brass, but what it's really missing is all the little fiddly details, like completely unnecessarily routed tubing and gear trains. If you could replace the ball valve handles with completely superfluous levers or what my father calls "bus steering wheels". (Any time there's a huge valve that needs to be opened in a film - usually to release explosive gas - there WILL be a huge steering wheel like valve handle. Ball and butterfly valves are evidently unheard of in Hollywood). In this case, it would just be an overly large circular valve handle.

Still a nice appearance, but not quite steampunk in my mind.

No this is not a “sniper rifle” I realize it has a scope and I realize it has respectable medium to long range accuracy and power, but first off it is not rifled so it is not a “rifle” and second calling any spudgun a “sniper” (any that I’ve seen to date) is not only inaccurate, but it demonstrates a lack of respect as to what the term means.

It may not be correct as to call it a sniper or sniper rifle, but I think being picky over it is will be to no avail, someone else will insist on calling their creation so, regardless of what you say.

And I think any of us, whether or not we agree with the naming, at least have some kind of desire for or pretence at such a thing when we strap a scope to our creations. I know I did.

With the media calling deranged gunmen armed with assault rifles spraying bullets at less than 100 metre ranges "snipers", I don't think that spudders can be accused of bringing dishonour to the name. If nothing else, as Rag mentioned sooner or later we all desire to emulate the craft of the professional sniper with our creations.

By the way, This gun has Convinced me to Make El Bambino a steampunk Style gun.....

BTW didn't you see the breech load coupler? There is brass in the design. 8)

It's possible you took your videos at too high a resolution. I had trouble trying to post some HD vids some time ago and ended up having to retake them in a lower res...they uploaded fine then.

I'm not the most savvy video editor. I don't even know where to start on how to lower the resolution. Is there a mac compatible program capable of doing that?

Steampunk is about brass, dulled iron, leather and stained woods arranged in a certain style. It doesn't have to be those materials, but it does really need to look like it is - and there needs to be that certain arrangement of parts and style. Exposed working parts doesn't hurt.
If this was all in white, no-one would even hint at steampunk. This is relying almost solely on some copper paint, and personally, I can't see copper, I can only see painted PVC.

You got me hangin' there...I avoid the Mac whenever possible...

IMTOO makes a bunch of video convertion tools that seem to work pretty well....they even have Mac products as well.... 8)

Sure. I could do a piece of art that was influenced by Van Gogh. Doing that doesn't then automatically make it:

• a) Van Gogh's actual work
  b) Van Gogh himself
  c) As good as his work.
  d) A reasonable imitation of his style
  e) Or for that matter, any good at all.

In the same manner, being influenced by steampunk does not steampunk make.
