Because the composition of the wire makes such a huge difference? Whatever.

If I wanted to trip people I'd use piano wire.

Yes, I suppose. Sewing thread isn't tough enough to trip you, it'll break.
Not so with fishing line.

Easy, find out the pull weight of the trigger mechanism and get fishing line to match, around 4 pound should be enough.
