hmmm valves = bit confusing for me!
I've got a rough idea of how it's all going to look but I don't know which valve would be best for me. As I say, I want to use maxium pressure. As soon as I hit that trigger, I want that ammo gone in a flick!
Would a BBMG be easier to make than a single shot BB gun?
I don't want to make anything that looks ugly or anything, I want it to be nice and a bit simple. I don't care if the vavle is beyond me cause my mate wouldn't mind joinning in on making one with me.

Ball valves are simple to use and cheap, but mostly you'll only get one shot (unless it's full auto/strafe). The problem with them is that the projectile has pretty much left the barrel before it's fully opened. You can use springs/elastic to help with this.
Modified sprinkler valves are basically sprinkler solenoids with the electrical component removed and a blowgun or similar valve used to pilot the diaphragm. Faster opening but more expensive and complex.
Then you have things like qev's, and then blow forward breeches, piston co-axials etc. Which are probably out of reach for your first time build.
Go to the BBMG/Strafer section and look at some of the CLOUD designs there. Fairly simple and sort of what you want. I'd probably leave a vortex alone for now.
I checked out ball valves on google adn i would say there not what i'm after.
I'll check out those other valves.

the best valve for your needs is a QEV they are ready made piston valves so they have a great opening time and very good flow, you don't need to mod them or anything just make sure you know where to put the barrel, chamber and pilot valve, also QEV's most of the time fill from the pilot side. hopefully your friend will know how they work. I am not a fan off bbmg's due to the serious lack of airsoft bb's in australia and you can acheive huge velocity with a bb sniper. I strongly suggest making a single shot as you can make them look awesome. :newb:

Is that how a QEV valve works? To see a better picture, click on it.
If so they look to be a a lil bit simple. I'm get a rough idea of how some valves work now! Just needa pick the right one for my needs!

awesome diagram. gives a good visual for those not understanding the mechanics of a QEV. good work WyldOne

How about a sprinkler(Assuming you live in the us), Thing is they are a little bulky but still OK to use, or a blowgun but that needs big time modding. Hammer valves might be the right thing for you(
http://www.instructables.com/id/Airgun- ... ase-Valve/). Otherwise QEVs are good, if you can find them. And a spring operated ball valve isnt all that bad...

I'm from the land down under (Australia) by the way fellas.
All I need to know is which valve would best suit me! I don't care if it's tricky to mod or anhthing, I can do it!

If you're making a BBMG, a simple blowgun will suffice as a valve. A QEV is more for single shot power, but you'd likely only get one or two useful shots per chamber fill.

Ok guys, I've decided to make a single shot gun.
So a QEV valve would best suit me right?
Sorry if I've got questions going left, right and centre but we all have to start somewhere...
Also, which type of fire extinguisher do yours reccomend I should get? I'm also a voulnteer CFA fire fighter so getting a fire extinguisher will be no problem. I'll be using around 150psi too.

a CO2 fire extinguisher; they are rated for higher pressure.

Look into brian the brain's work, he's modded several QEVs for multiple shot operation and a fire extinguisher sized chamber should give you several good shots. If you want one shot per fill, look into a smaller chamber.

Cheers!
OK, so would a QEV best suit me? I just need to make sure.
What could I use as a trigger? The fire extinguisher?

I would go for a QEV, take out and discard the fire extinguisher's valve and use a blowgun for triggering, simple, cheap and effective.

G'day guys,
My father got me a ball valve. I know its not a QEV valve but i'll still use it and see what I can make.

The ball valve performance will become boring. Springload it or actuate it with a ram or servo for better performance.
