Welllll, this really isn't the project for you if you need to go on the cheap. In looking at these scenarios, this massive chamber is operating on dangerous scale. If you can't afford to put the proper materials into it, I would suggest just putting it on the back burner for now.
Fuel metering will be the least of your worries. Also a single auto spark plug and stun gun should work fine for your ignition.
On top of transport, your artillery mount will also need to accommodate recoil and lots of weight.

You and my brother....pff..
He is still to finish a 4" porting, piston valved- 23 liter reservoir-cannon from wich he wants to fire cokebottles filled with concrete.
The cheaper option would be to fill them with sand, and once its full, saturate it with water, then freeze.
Anyway. You are talking dangerous contraption all the way.
It would be a great thing to do....once...
You'll probably spend a lot more time constructing, than you will shooting.
These kinds of projects tend to be put away real fast.

You could also use part of the pipe as barrel. Could almost go pumpkin chunkin' with that.

You have no idea how much i would LOVE to see a hybrid the size of one of those punkin chunkin cannons.
Unfortunately, for competition anyway, combustion based propulsion is not allowed at any of the "official" punkin chunkin meets that I know of....a highly misguided rule in my opinion...dudeman508 wrote:You could also use part of the pipe as barrel. Could almost go pumpkin chunkin' with that.

It's probably just as well...a pumpkin would be very lucky to survive a hybrid launch in one piece.

Amen. I actually daydreamed about taking Vera (she's called "Vera" these days) to such a shoot as a PR stunt. Then I read their rules... Shoot, they artificially tie their own hands behind their backs in so many ways that I wonder what the point of the competition is.starman wrote:Unfortunately, for competition anyway, combustion based propulsion is not allowed at any of the "official" punkin chunkin meets that I know of....a highly misguided rule in my opinion...
I'm pretty sure I know how to do it.It's probably just as well...a pumpkin would be very lucky to survive a hybrid launch in one piece.

Well, that's half of the equation. The other half would be to fill the pumpkin AND the sabot with water. Hydrostatic pressure is a wonderful way to endure high Gs without damaging delicate structures.starman wrote:One big-A sabo....D_Hall wrote:I'm pretty sure I know how to do it.

Lets get back on topic. What are your recommendations for the project? Anything that I ought to consider? (Besides the sheer amount of power
)
Well it is your project and I believe there have been several issues and recommendations brought up in the discussion...I don't think it swerved off topic too much. Everything brought up could be relevant to you.
Honestly, only my opinion here, your 10" x 6' (even cut down to 2') pipe is really too large to do much with without a lot of modifications and reinforcement. Even then, for practical sized ammo, your barrel lengths will have to be very large as well to extract anywhere close to all the energy that will be available in the shot...even with smallish mixes.
Perhaps if we knew what your expectations were for the project, we could assist you better. The sky really is the limit here....narrow it down a bit for us...what kind of ammo, performance you desire, etc.

You may have a problem with ddt there...I'm thinking about leaving it the length it is now. Whats the biggest hybrid in terms of chamber size?
You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.
