he doesnt know you dont have the correct equipment to do it. He also doesnt know that you dont plan on going to a professional to get it done.
Just tell him you will be hiring a professional to do it.
It would be the best thing to actually do that, (if you let them keep the freon they should do it for a low price) but otherwise just lie about it to avoid taking risks.
