Awesome vid and rifle!!
Hadn't seen it yet because no speakers or time on-line lately.
The one shot seemed to pierce one layer of tank and bounce on second(?)
Wonder if 1000 or 3000psi will go through both sides (even with the soft lead projectiles....New Vid!!! 8)

With a bit of luck, we'll find out soon. I received my spring today.
Wrong mold, that one's for 1/2" type M copper.
This is the mold before being reworked;

May I reiterate how beautiful those slugs are, 10 points for all the work you've put into making this launcher a complete system.
So we can expect some 3,000 psi testing soon?I received my spring today.

Indeed, perhaps some sort of muzzle brake is in order.CpTn_lAw wrote:See the recoil this beast has at 600 psi?

Very impressive!
Seems like a very effective valve.
You might even hit a point where increasing the pressure won't do jack.
3000 psi might get you just at the soundbarrier!
Be sure to share the new ( spring) results asap..
Can you do a how to on those slugmolds?In case you already have, where can I find it?
I mean..I get how to make a splitmold, but that nose is awsome!
how did you do that?

Thanks! I hope to be casting some slugs tomorrow, shooting on Sunday???(Wife has plans for me. )
The recoil isn't bad, it's more of a "gentle, yet irresistible ... shove".(The co-ax weighs around 15 pounds.)(My nephew says the recoil is stronger than his R-15 carbine though. Took him by surprise. )
Brian, I'm not sure which mold you're referring to, but the nose on small one for 1/2" copper was made with a modified HSS spade bit.
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/easy-sp ... 17366.html
The nose on the large mold was made using a 3/4" round nosed, carbide router bit.(This mold was made on the lathe.)
Specs can be found in the build log;
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/high-pr ... 12803.html
Far Cry,
The slugs were tumbling end over end at the lower pressure and velocity, accuracy was not good. The shots on the fuel tank were taken at ~15m, not all hit.
I've reworked the slug mold again to place even more of the mass in the front of the slug. We'll have to wait until I fire some to see if there is any improvement.
I'm fairly confident that they'll work better at higher velocities, and the new hammer spring should make that possible.(Crosses fingers.)

Awesome,
You should consider using a more pointed tip on your ammunition if they're going supersonic (should with nitrogen). At sub supersonic speeds, rounded noses are the most efficient but at supersonic speeds a pointed tip as you would see in a rocket nosecone is best. For hypersonic, the tip is rounded then it slopes down to a cone I believe.
But we're not going that fast, so a pointy tip is probably best.
Can't wait to see them..
