I'm sure PVC does indeed expand when pressurized. Perhaps not enough to see by eye but a strain gauge would have no trouble measuring the expansion. The tensile strength of PVC is pretty low.

Exactly, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't do it. Larger PET bottle's don't visibly expand before they burst, but they do, just like the smaller ones.

They can, when we were doing (against the forum rules) it took no genius to see that the bottles were expanding, some of them even getting water balloon sized growths (rapid pressure increase) then exploding.

Of course this varies greatly from bottle to bottle, manufacturer to manufacturer. We also noted wrapping them in anything from duct tape to filament/fiberglass tape made them last much longer.

I found several sites on the internet that said just because it says dwv does not mean it isnt psi rated. So i began to check it out. it is true and one way it says to tell not pressure rated has short collar where pipe side into fitting and pressure rated has the longer collar. means pipe slides in farther.
