Boring out the back of the ammo could be very quick and painless with a drill and the correct bit. Drill press would be even better.
Its tough to expect great accuracy out of a pvc spud gun, I would say the accuracy you are getting is still pretty good.

Try a shotshell type projectile, certainly increases your hit probability

Yes. But then, unsurprisingly, you get groupings that look like they were done with shotguns.

On that note, I always liked the standard response in airgun stores:
"Can you sell me something that'll let me shoot like Person X from magazine Y?"
"Shotguns are around the back sir."

...and before you point anything out, I'm spending six months without any gender for tax reasons. It's quite convenient if kicked in the crotch, but it's a nightmare in the bathroom.

Anything more rigid will get better accuracy. For example, I could take the same launcher, and with a copper barrel, it would be more accurate than with a PVC barrel.

Yes, aside from the lack of good rifling the accuracy issue is exacerbated by the barrel flex. Copper is more rigid, but at longer lengths is still susceptible to some amount of flex.

So I was thinking of going with copper barrel of ~3' inside 3/4" PVC to increase the l strength.

I wouldn't expect better accuracy with a wooden dowel as ammo... for long range shooting you need something that is consistent and stable in fligh and has high density...

marbles are quite good... what is more they are round and relatively cheap, which is a good thing if you want to convert your gun to a semi or if you shoot a lot)
their biggest drawback is the fact that they lack density (16mm marbles are about 5 gram each) so they slow down rather fast

of course you could cast lead balls but IMO it's too time consuming

however, there are places that sell lead balls - such as this one - clicky I am sure you can find something similar in your country


I used to have lots of steel bolts and nuts (yeah you know why I don't have them anymore )... they make an excelent ammo when sleeved or joined with a pvc pipe.. I suppose you could cast a nice drag stabilized ammo with hot glue and nuts or bolts [/url]

Someone around here once made a projectile that was a plastic cylinder for a base, hollow, about as wide as it was long. That was filled with BB's, and a cone was placed over the open end, I believe it was aluminum. IIRC, it was quite the powerful round.

EDIT: Then there's this one. The pictures are broken by now but I think the premise was take a BB, drop it into the tip of a mold, and pour polyurethane behind it. You'd end up with a BB-tipped polyurethane projectile.
