Also, not to long ago someone got arrested here for possession of an almuninium spudgun, plus closer to me someone destructive tried to get his hands on one - destructive as in has previously blown up several laboratories and caused quite some damage.

Point 7, while sounding stupid, isn't meant to keep out criminals. Real guns, bombs, knives, metal bars etc have more killing power than any spudgun, and the last 2 are easily available to any criminal.

Those that abuse spudguns & give us all a bad name are usually over-mischievous students who are only interested in destruction. So, we want to make it troublesome enough that 99% of the jokers decide to do something else to satisfy their fetish for destruction instead of make trouble for us. As for the 1% that is sufficiently determined to build one, that sounds like quite a lot of us on the site.......converted into *somewhat* responsible spudders at the end.

Something more universal would obviously be good for all, but I think it should be a community effort, not just the stuff from one area.

Create a Wiki account and add it to the legal issue's section. You don't need the moderator's to do it for you.

well I understand your point here.. but you can't decide for yourself who is ok and who is not..

this might work in your closest neighbourhood because you more or less know who is responsible and who is not
...but it won't work here

most of those who use spudguns irresponsibly are not a big problem because they are not patient enough to learn...
their best guns are simple spray and pray combustions

I'd rather take a hit from a metal bar than a hit from some of the more powerful cannons here.

... heck, I've been stabbed. I'd rather go through that again than take a hit from even something as modest in energy as what I normally build.

Now, to say that real guns have more potential to kill than ANY spudgun is asking for trouble. There are spudguns out there that make anti-materiel rifles look like pansies.
I believe FEAR once registered ~40,000 ft-lbf with a potato. Stand in the way of that, and you'd be very dead.

Also on the part where you said dont post what materials you used, i think it would be pretty easy for someone to replicate if not make an exact copy of someones spudgun.

I am not saying that it is impossible to build a compact, fully self contained semi-auto air gun that could be used as a substitute of a firearm...

but building it would require access to a machine shop... and if you have access to a good machine shop you might as well use it to produce a firearm, which will perform better as a tool for criminals

Let's not forget that airguns were once viable weapons of war, and it is claimed that some high powered rifles are being used by special forces as stealthy close range sniper rifles. In this day and age however, a properly suppressed 22LR rimfire rifle would probably be quieter and definitely be more compact and practical - better to have a pocket full of rounds than a cylinder on your back, ask the IDF

Agreed there, it can be frustrating at times but better err on the side of discretion
