Spark plugs don't use NPT.
Sorry I was under the impression that dyi's 20x cannon used an actual spark plug. Making your own spark gap encased in .5 inch pipe that screws into the tee is always an option.

Yes, that is what I was originally thinking of doing, but a cheap spark plug and tap also seem like a good idea since it means I don't need any epoxy. I guess either method works since they both seem common.

How in gods name is that a good thing? I like epoxy..

Reliable, strong and aesthetically invisible if used well.
