you should check your local ace or whatever you have too. the ace by me has stuff up to 4 inch, and the lowes and homedepot dont have anything over 2.

okay i didnt read all of the comments but if you had access to a lathe you could use UHMW or some kind of polyethylene, possibly even teflon to make a piston. just a suggestion, i've made one out of UHMW before.

nice man. and yea, that always seems to be the compromise when it comes to tweaking the volume.

It does sound a bit off, this is what I got:

yea a 20" length of 1" pvc seems a little big for metering propane. i made a combustion tennis ball cannon with a 4 x 18" chamber and if i remember correctly, i think my meter pipe was, er, like maybe 6" long and 1/2" diameter.

i guess i should have noted my tank is 50 psi not 90, either that or my pressure gauge is borked

In that case pressure is about half, so the length of the metre pipe approximately doubles.

oh, before i forget, has anyone every tried using acetylene gas instead of propane? I have an oxy-gas welding torch and just thought of trying it.

Typing "acetylene" into the search button would have answered your question,
use it

That is the search button, not acetylene
