It's not a "real" cannon or even a "cannon cannon". It is a POS. Basically a pipe bomb missing one end cap.

I'd say the only good part is the fairly nice muzzle brake seen if you pause at 1:02...

Are bombs legal subject matter on Spudfiles?

You're right, though. I was waiting on the whole thing to explode in the video.

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I couldn't see how thick the pipe was or how much propellant was used. By looking at his Youtube video, I can tell that there are two versions of the cannon, and that the second one reached just over 3300 ft/s. 30kJ is not much muzzle energy for such a size, but considering the barrel and construction, it's probably operating near or above its safe limit already. It's certainly not going to be pushing the muzzle pressures of modern guns...

He also stated the the fuel was Pyrodex, something that most of us probably suspected anyway as it's a common choice in such homemade cannons, resulting from relative safety, availability, and ease of use.

Do you really need someone to answer that question for you?
Spudfiles' resident expert on all things that sail through the air at improbable speeds, trailing an incandescent wake of ionized air, dissociated polymers and metal oxides.
