I'm actually planning something like this, I am trying to find the absolute maximum range of an airsoft bb. After that I will probably make a mutishot rifle powered by c02 powerlets for actual skirmish use.
I'm interested in seeing how the performance on this will be, Just a tip from experience in my fully upgraded bar-10, If you are going to be using .43 gram bb's, I would reccomend some goldenball .43 gram bbs they next to digicon .43's are the best .43's out there.

I have some madbull .43 g bbs with their madbull 6.03 barrel.
Are their bb's ok?
Now i have to try to make the trigger mechanism work... its gonna be a P.I.T.A as i have very poor metal cutting tools ... but i will get it done.
I plan (when i would be major) To actually make a real high power rifle charged by a high pressure hand pump (3000 psi) and shoot .50 or .45 to get some real range (800 m maybe?) then register it to be fully legal ...
Pretty much like sandman.

UPDATE
pfuu...
Here is an update of where i am in my project, it goes pretty well aside from the fact that i lack of proper tools, the part that looks like a split in two cylinder took me 2 hours ... with an hacksaw and then grinded a few millimeters ...
This is just the "frame" (the trigger is not done yet nor the valve rod, but it is not that long to make)
Just to show that i am actually engaged in this and not thinking of an other canon again (its kinda hard to)
Blaa....
Note the bunch of tools lying on the ground and on the table ( actually, only half of the tools are shown, all my grandp'as and the dremel + toolboxes are under the table ...)

You know for lack of better tools, that is some exceptional work!! However, I think those are all the tools you need for this hobby.

Looking good!\Remember you can use fine sandpaper to make all the parts look industrial...or even polish them..

Lil'update
Added the trigger mount, whats left is to make the piston and the trigger mechansim and the seal on chamber side ...
The main reason there is so much working lately is that i got banned until 10 pm on my ogame account ... lol ...

Only whats missing is some taps and a lovely 12 inch drill press/milling machine if i get to have space and money(only for mill)

I hope you can afford a mill soon.

Its not that i want to brag

... but i have also built 2 robots and other small projects in electronics before i got to have spudgunning frenzy (i really cant quit spudgunning/airgun, its like an addiction

)
The reason to all this might be that i dont have a very big social life

NEW PICS
Tadaaaa!
I now need to make the trigger
( I wont hide to you that i actually runned like James bond with the "pistol" to get to the computer 8) )
Acually, if i placed a 3 way valve on the trigger and a 12g co2 cartidge in the handle, i could had got a nice semi automatic pistol !
But i will stick to the carbine design ...
