Not an airsoft one though, it would have the be a converted 12 ft/lbs plus springer.

And it would damage the piston because of a lack of "air bumper" effect.
I believe Weihrauch and Gamo claim to break the sound barrier with some airgun models?

Weihrauch make quality airguns and have no need to resort to such claims.
Gamo on the other hand...

Yeah, I'm not aiming for 1500 fps yet... I don't even have a pump that would get me the pressure I would need, nor do I have the tools. I may be able to make one that shoots at around 700 fps, and that would be with a steel bb, and I would deem it unsafe for airsoft.

At school we have some >60 year old lathes made by some German manufacturer. Still work perfectly

If someone was willing to replace the barrel and make a good detent mechanism on a full power spring rifle, it's more than possible.
Personally, I like my HW97K too much to subject it to such indignity
