Spring loading.

Have a browse through the Image, will probably answer a lot of basic questions.

Is PVC-U the same as sch40 PVC? Also as the pressure ratings are for water I presume does this mean you must go a lot lower than the pressure rating?

Pressure is pressure. 100 psi of water is putting the same stress on the PVC as 100 psi of air.

first off, use the edit button, and try not to double post. the moderators will jump all over you about it. second, sprinkler valves are plastic, not metal, and even if they were, you can interchange pvc/metal fittings, thread them together. a sprinkler valve where I live costs about 12 to 15 dollars. a 2 inch ball valve I would think costs much more than that, weather it be pvc or brass!!! the only thing you can do to a ball valve to make it open faster is lube it with grease, oil, etc., or attach a sping to it some how. a sprinkler valve has much more opening time than both I just suggested!!

Wow.

You may find some ABS that is thin, just like you can find PVC spouting but in a lot of cases non-pressure rated ABS is actually better (ABS isn't really brittle by the way) than pressure-rated PVC due to its ability to absorb shock, withstand more extreme temperatures and it's tearing failing characteristic.
Mr C. did some research, and just wanted to say, as much as I hate to admit it, you are right.

I've tested non pressure rated ABS DWV pipe. My results are in my sig below if you are interested. Conclusion, it works.

How cheap is cheap? One of our sponsors used to do a pretty good deal, probably plus postage it will be cheaper than buying locally in rip-off Britain ;)

I got one off amazon for £20.

Buy a QEV if you live in the UK. Here: http://www.technobotsonline.com/pneumat ... alves.html

You will want a 3/4" one.

Also, buy here for cheap pressure rated PVC in the UK: http://www.hendersons.co.uk/pipework2/

That will cost you £16.45 not including P&P

This one is £12 posted ;)

Alternatively I hear you can get a pretty damn good custom made piston valve for just £49.99 ;)

Update, July 2011: I can no longer keep up with my customers how they deserve. Since I bought my house last year, it's been extremely difficult dealing with all the responsibilities of being a homeowner on top of working a full time swing-shift job, having somewhat of a social life, and being a good boyfriend to a beautiful girl since December of '09. It was rare that my orders could get out in a timely manner, and now it's gotten even harder. My parents and I have bought a local pizza restaurant - a new stepping stone in my entrepreneur career. With this now in my life, I am forced to make a cut, and I regret to say that LaunchPotatoes.com will be the part of me that must go. I thank everyone for your interest in my work, your support, and your spirit for the art of launching potatoes. I hope things will work out so I can once again make room for spud guns in my life, but for now I cannot accept any more orders.
Thank you,
-Sean
(Currently processing orders will still be completed as soon as possible. Past customers: please feel free to contact me. I will continue to offer customer service with repairs and troubleshooting the best I can.)
