And just so that I can add to my dickdom....

Today I got to watch a rocket sled test. Zero to Mach 1.2 in 1.5 seconds. 8)

Do consider that the Trident launch tubes really are nothing more than hybrid guns.

As I understand it, they were just ball valves with hydraulic actuators. Remember, we're talking HEAVY projectiles and low muzzle velocities. Valve speed isn't that critical. And just to make ya laugh... I was talking to a old timer who was on the Polaris boats. He mentioned that there were actually guys with sledge hammers down below. They would stand over the valve and if it didn't go the moment it was supposed to, they were to wack it open with the hammer. He says they never actually had to, but that was the back up plan.
