That's exactly right dude.
It let's air into the chamber but upon piloting it seals the pilot therefore all chamber air goes out the barrel and there is no wastage through the pilot valve.

oh... my wording is letting me down again. its for a co-ax gun. Here's a visual explanation of my idea :oops:
Edit: oops I've just realised the arrow for the hole in the sealing face is pointing to the wrong place, it's the gap between the two black lines

Take out the check valve and take out the hole in the sealing face. The sealing face is the check valve. It works the same in any piston doesn't matter if it's coax or tee or what.

Too bloody complicated...(the "flap" idea not withstanding)..floating o-ring as a check is easy...as is using a u-cup seal.
