A hybrid isn't out of the question. I'd just double-sleeve it (using couplers if necessary) and fire it remotely, or behind a piece of safety glass. But from everything I've read about hybrids, burst discs can be a pain in the ass.
Admittedly it's a stupid quest to start with, but the idea of putting a golf ball through the sound barrier really intrigues me.
I'm looking for the most economic way to do this. I'm saving towards a house, so blowing money on a cannon is kind of a bad idea. If it can't be done within $300 or so, I'll probably put it off until it's more in the budget.
Thanks a bunch for the input, guys.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.

May i suggest my Pneumatic DOBA launcher with a 20 foot Golf ball barrel?
It runs using a burst disk at 300 psi
Air: 1107 ft/s
Nitrogen: 1125 ft/s
Helium: 1758ft/s
Hydrogen: 2059 ft/s

There are chemicals you can mix that make helium, one I think is alluminum. You could always build a feul cell, they're very simple, 2 plates dipped in water with a current running through them.

Hyrdogen is the easyerst to make there are so many different ways to make it with different metals and acids and bases, a good one is aluminium and caustic soda and a little water but it also creates alot fo heat.

Talk to Spudinator. He has a supersonic hybrid.

That's Hydrogen your making there.... It seperates the hydrogen and the oxygen inside of a battery....
To do this I normally use a 6v or 9v battery with the terminals in epson salt water with test tubes over the terminals... I forget which terminal makes oxygen and which makes hydrogen....

yes i have done that before. whichever one creates more bubbles is the hydrogen the the other is oxygen. it took me about 5 minutes to fill up a 3 inch tall, 1/4 inch wide little plastic tube with hydrogen so i dont think its very practical. you can buy hydrogen generators that do that with more efficiency and produce alot of hydrogen fast. but i dont think just anyone can buy them and im sure they arent cheap. that would be so fun to mess around with though
