There is a way that you can almost double your FPS on the mag lite. On your co2 pump thing use these nitrogen cartridges.

How come? How much pressure do they store?

Well, nitrogen/helium is supposed increase velocity because its less dense then air and therefore expands faster. I have tried these in my pen guns and the result is about a 50-100 fps increase. and for the psi, i really dont know.

Haha, considering you didn't know the pressure these canisters hold and that you had previously seen performance increases of 50-100fps, the claim that I could double my performance using NO2 is a bit far-fetched don't you think? Maybe it is possible, but I wouldn't be inclined to make that statement with those facts alone.

I hear those NO2 canisters are cheaper though, so as long as they don't hurt performance they might be a good alternative. Thanks for the suggestion.

I personally haven't seen a change this drastic, but i have seen other member's threads in which they use a N02 cylinder and an air cylinder to compare the results.

So, the speed of sound in N2O (Nitrous Oxide, not Nitrogen Dioxide) is 263m/s, according to this site. On the same chart, it lists CO2 as 259m/s.

So it's not worth it, and before you protest and say it was Nitrogen Dioxide, consider that it's a dark red gas that causes pulmonary oedema. And the SOS in NO2 would be even lower.

Science to the rescue! (of your wallet)

Does actual experience count for anything? :)

Back when I was shooting my copper gun, I tried it with both co2 and N2 at the same pressure (400psi) and temperature, with the same ammo (14mm marbles IIRC)...N2 was ~100fps faster.

Used my F1 to measure velocity.

Gip, N2 is a good propellant gas, N2O isn't. That extra Oxygen molecule adds 16g per mole.

Then there are also helium cartridges

Helium is supposed to be almost like pure n2, performance wise.

Air is mostly nitrogen, so there should be little difference between nitrogen and compressed air. Helium is much, much less dense, so it will perform much better as a propellant.

As to leaks, being a smaller molecule it does tend to squeeze through seals more easily, but it can still be contained.
