oh clever. yeh ill look at 6mm then so it can be adapted to airsoft i guess.
so does larger calibre equal higher muzzle energy or is there a loss in velocity with the extra weight or surface area

Extra diameter means more surface area so the air has more area to push on. It also means extra volume for the air to expand in though, so pressure loss is more rapid.

A heavier projectile will normally give you more muzzle energy, because it makes more efficient use of the air and also makes up for valve opening speed. However this is at the expense of velocity, which is what you want for a flat trajectory. Shooting at 30 yards though, a reasonably dense projectile at 500-600 fps is more than enough for accurate shooting without having to worry too much about bullet drop.

I'm taking it that commercially produced airgun barrels are not an option for you. Shit happens.

With access to machine tools this doesn't have to be a huge obstacle...make a swaging die sized for whatever barrel you can source. Made one for a .32 pcp project as it was difficult at the time to source .310" ammo locally. Bit of work, but the rounds work well. :)

Yeah i thought about this. Might even consider casting my own just for the exercise of it.
