Now you're going to have to strip the paint, get it welded, then the whole tank has to be painted, because there's going to be holes burned into the paint.

Listen to Dewey, he's a clever bloke, and he knows what he's talking about.

Just a wire wheel where the welds will go, make sure there's plenty of room around it for the weld. Leave the paint on the inside, but you're going to have to repaint the whole thing again.

Thanks zeus I thought I had to chip off the paint on the inside

I just checked how my paint was doing in my tank and I realized it was sill wet so i was able to wipe off the under the top and down the sides just not the bottle the absolute bottom. Now the thing i have to worry about is getting the steel wool hairs out of the tank.

Personally I think that is more work and a less flexible design than just using a tank and a merchant coupling.
You need to make a cut on the tank and a cut on the nipple.
With a merchant coupling you only need to make one cut and that is on the tank.

Adding a hole for a fill valve at the back of the tank is not a good idea because it reduces the strength integrity of the tank.

Here a 1-1/2 inch merchant coupler welded to a 4.25 inch diameter fire extinguisher.
