Wheres the video i can see it

Pvc sch. 80 is stronger and weaker at the Same time. I have no idea why you would have tried to do this in the first place but I am glad your ok. This is why I wont use pvc bigger than 2 inch for a chamber. I used to work as a laborer for a plumber and pvc 80 would break all the time during transportation, like just snap in half. Fair to say lesson learned the hard way.

Yall seem to have missed in the original post the part
"I woulda had video but the blast knocked the camera over and the battery popped out" I was recording with my samsung galaxy and the concussion blew the phone down and the battery popped out, therefore the video never got saved to memory... other wise you woulda saw a green plywood box down range, and heard.. "fire mission one hot potato, 2x mix vs plywood box..... aim.... turn face away.... please dont blow up please dont blow up..... BANG CRASH UGH!!! #($&($& UGHH ... It blew up!!!"

oh and here it is 15.5 hours later my ear still ringing like crazy....

uhm sorry I missed that part

when i test my new dangerous creations, always always always use some form of remote firing during ur first few test shots as that would expose flaws, (long cord for spark detonation) (string tied to trigger for air cannons)

I had a feeling this would happen, guess no one can really say it's surprising.
How close to it were you when it failed? Did any PVC shards cut through the skin or are you just a bit bruised and deaf?

Aside from the fact that no one got seriously hurt, at least we now have a pretty good example of why PVC and hybrids shouldn't go together most of the time.

One of the things I value most on a new cannon is the knowledge that it there is almost no chance of it failing when I use it. I can't even say that about my old PVC pneumatics. I feel a lot safer using a 10x hybrid built from 2" galv. iron than I do using 2" PVC at 120PSI.

This makes me want to use my aluminum 2X as a regular combustion, just to be safer. Damn, glad you didn't get seriously hurt. Did you get cut anywhere? Wait, you weren't holding it obviously, right? Looks like it was leaning on a box at least.

I had my arm wrapped around the chamber bracing it against the back wall.... it exploded in my chest and armpit... lots of bruises no cuts at all except a little one on my palm and wrist just two little scratches...the worst is my head has been ringing for 24 hours nonstop this high pitched screech ... Im kinda spooked now has an iron pipe hybrid ever failed? Id like to have a smaller iron cannon but with the same power (4,200 ft/lb)

not as far as i know a few copper pipe barrels have exploded, that's about all i can recall.

Damn, you certainly were lucky.

As for a smaller iron hybrid, one built from 2" galv. iron fittings is definitely capable of 4,200ft/lb at a 10x mix with only a 2" barrel. As long as you keep to 10x mixes and below, you should be pretty safe. A few people, myself included, have had small bore copper barrels fail when used on a hybrid cannon. I even used a pressure rated ABS barrel on a 10x hybrid for awhile but I wouldn't recommend trying that. It's best to just use materials that shouldn't fail. It's not as fun when you're constantly thinking that the next shot might cause one of the parts to fail.

Agreed. To be honest though, I don't know if I could ever over build a cannon enough to make me perfectly comfortable. There is always that "what if" feeling. Then again, its that paranoia that helps keep you safe.
