Now that's a thought. I'd actually thought of using resin, but your post brought up a new idea for it, that makes it more applicable.
One thing though, the pipe needs to come back out of the resin, and fairly easily. How do I do that? Grease it or wax it?

Usually when you buy a resin you buy a release agent with it, which is usually a powder which kind of acts like a grease, but if not then oil or grease would work fine, as long as it wouldn't saturate or prevent the resin from curing,
Also it's probably worth noting that some resins will shrink away from the mold, just by a fraction of a millimeter (the distance depends on the composition of resin you buy) but that makes getting things out of it (or it out of things) a lot easier, so if you are going down that route, it might be something to look out for when your buying,

Awesome, mate. I'm working on an airsoft shotgun right now, and I'll see if this works.

I tried out the spade bit and a 2 x 4, but I couldn't get the hole straight enough over a long enough distance.
I did however, get a chance to try out a new toy I was given for Christmas!
I was given a Ryobi Router by a family friend, and I decided to give it a shot.
I think, with the right bit, I will be able to cut the perfect groove in a pair of 1 x2's and fit them together, and then place the cylinder in the groove. AWESOME TOOL.

Nice to see work being done on homemade springers.
What spring are you planning to use and where are you planning to get it from?
The Ace Hardware near my home has springs of a variety of strengths and sizes though I do not know if they have an acceptable spring.

Actually, the one I'm using came off of an old umbrella, I think. Standard stores don't really carry springs that are long enough, without being too hard to compress.
At the moment the sniper rifle I'm working on is only as powerful as a cheap spring pistol, maybe 40 ft of range. But the nice thing is, its built DIY fashion, so I can put it under WAY more stress that manufactured ones, so bigger springs
