A deep boom indicates a slow burn. Try adjusting the fuel in small increments. Be sure you fully vent the chamber with fresh air between shots.

I found a loose connection that was preventing the chamber fan from running. Thanks!

Nice spam.
Dart guy, I gave your method a try. I wrapped some masking tape around the circumference of the barrel and squeezed a 3" cap tightly on the end. The cap is tethered to the cannon. It shoots very loudly now and is much easier to "reload" since there's no need to mess about with masking tape!

How loud woul dyou guess it is?
Im using calcium carbide like Labtecpower sugest the dutch have been using this stuff for years im almost tot he point of finding a milk jug and a ball because you just cant stop its like an addiction LOUDER LOUDER LOUDER!
I have pinned mine with a steel door hinge pin that keeps a ball from entering the 4" chamber so i can shoot the kids 75mm tennis balls.
These things are so simple it isnt even funny.
I have one i built just like how the dutch do their milk jugs. one opening at the muzzle and a touch hole to ignite the gas and thats it. dump in the water, drop in a few rocks of carbide and wait a few minutes for the gas to build BABOOM!
