Throwing Knives

yea, the shop teacher might be cool with it, but you never know who's gonna get word of it from someone, really, i'm done shaping my knife, i just have a bit of final shaping. then i need to harden and temper the steel, file the crosspiece a bit more, solder it on, finish up the handle, then sharpen and polish it, and it'll be done. i think i'm going to ask my aunt to make a sheath for it out of leather.

just look around yardsales and flea markets for files, preferably old broken ones, it'd be foolish to destroy a good one, and start sanding, grinding, and filing away until you get the shape you want, you'll most likely have to re-temper the steel after you're done though.

Yeah Ill have a go, so did you make yours from scratch? When its finished post some pictures! A leather sheath would be a nice touch, I really want a leather one. At the moment I only have nylon ones that came with knives I bought.

I quikly(15min) made a throwing knife out of an old file because they are made out of extremely good metal,some of the best you can easily get. Just to show you some throwing techniques.You can make very good knives out of old files.I made mine with a angle grinder and a bench grinder.

Careful not to throw it at any hard objects or that file blade will shatter because they are made very hard but nice for a 15min job and we were making knifes in school metal work and the teacher didnt care he was telling use how to heat treat them once we are done and such ot make them easyer to sharpen and keep there blade edge better,he was also showing us how to use an oxy-torch and make some loud as fire works even though we all new hwo to do it we wanted to see if he would really make one at school and he did with a small papper bag which was damn loud for the size.

That knifes great for 15 min job! I wish I had an angle grinder but mum doesnt trust me with them. Even though she trusts me with guns, bullets and motorbikes, she wont let me near stuff like that .

Haha your mum doesnt want you to get hurt angle grinders can make sparks which can burn your skin if exposed to it long enough and that dangerous...lol...Yet she doesnt mind if you sit there with a gun blowing holes in stuff..lol..Parents just dont make sence sometimes just like when i got my eyebrow peirced mum said it was ok but when i did it she went off at me for getting it done,donest make sence..ohh well...And i found my knife it was stuck in the roots of a bush was near imposible to see.

Haha, forks. Thats great you found your knife! Post a pic of it, is it single or double blade? And by guns in my room I mean like handguns a rifles, real ones. I had to leave them in england but I hope to get an anschutz .22 soon. I just need money .

and why go for an expensive .22, get yourself an M1a or remington 700 in .308 and have some real fun

zaketus,It is all in your technique.If you get that right the you should be able to pin a blade in stuff with no problem.That knife I made works fine,allthough I am not interested in throwing knives.

Yeah it's technique...

I was throwing few hours ago and i noticed that >3inch nails are good for throwing. I thinkn my small throwing knives are too light.

I thought that handle might affect to flight.

The handle makes basically no difference. When we train with out grandmaster befor we are allowed to throw shuricans we first have to learn to pin 4inch nails in wood.Don't buy those 'ninja stars' that look cool but are paper thin,you would be lucky if you could pin those in cardbourd.Thowing blades have to be big, sharp and heavy.

You might be wondering about my grand master.Well, there are 9 koga ryu ninjitsu grandmasters in the world and we just happen to have one in south africa,who just happens to love coming to our dojo aa few times a month.I am happy about this because it benifits me a sh*t load but his training is very rough.If you are interested then pm me.

These my knives are ½" x 4½"...."Little" too small and light. I bought them because they were cheap (and they are Linder->i thougt these might be good knives).

I'll buy new, bigger throving knives when get money (if i won't bbuy pipes).
...but files are cheaper
