imagine what they would cost is more like it. Not to mention, that makes brass if you manage to melt the fitting down. Copper + Tin = Brass... and we all know how expensive brass fittings are.

are you guys talking about those presoldered fittings with the band of solder already in them? cause those definately are not much more expensive than regular fittings and quite convineint i must say :P . but what are you talking about melting the fitting down? what does that have to do with anything? and i doubt the proportions would be right to make brass anyways.

as far as the whole tutorial idea i say go for it. the more resources out there the better.

exactly. for anybody that disagrees, the more tutorials out there the less stupid questions you have to answer.

This would be a great tutorial as many probably do not know how to solder copper pipe. I only know because my dad does jack of all trades work and tought me a bit. But some people may not admit to it and secretly use it.
