Looks sweet dude, but don't forget to polish it! Hybrid would be nice, but I enjoy a bit of simpicity. Thus the reason I've settled upon pneumatics. Plug it in and fire away. No more dicking with fuel, load, fire, vent, fuel, load, fire, etc

Actually, my pneumatic makes more of a bang than the combustion ever did. We're talking "ear protection mandatory" type bang.........

Nothing like a good loud bang to make you feel like you've got some lightning to match the thunder but that's not always the case. The physics works out very roughly:

1) Accelerating the projectile takes energy.

2) Making noise takes energy.

3) Pressure in the tank (or chemical bonds in the propellant) store energy.

4) You can't release more energy than you stored.

5) In fact, you'll always release less useful energy than you stored.

Therefore: Energy you hear ain't chucking the spud, it's just annoying the neighbors.

Nothing is perfectly efficient so there's always some noise. Engineers who work for the automotive industry (especially the motorcycle side of that industry) are always working out how to make exhaust systems efficient and relatively quiet (except some parts of the motorcycle industry which are selling the sound -- think about a big Harley at idle going "potato potato potato" or the "loud pipes save lives" crowd.)

I'm guessing pneumatics are often louder than combustions is because the pressure chamber is typically larger and creates a resonant cavity. The physics of sound gets way complex way fast.

Bottom line: Loud doesn't always equal powerful but it sure can equal fun. I like firing my combustion into the air at night just to watch the glow in the chamber and the muzzle flash.

Just my 2¢ worth.

My pneumatic is very soft...almost silent...But I guess that's just me.

That implies you got the chamber:barrel ratios right. By the time the chamber has dumped it's air and pressure is back to atmospheric, the projectile is just clearing the barrel and there's not much "left-over" energy to vibrate the system. I'll bet if you shortened the barrel or enlarged the pressure chamber, you'd get a lot more bang.

I have a moderately loud gun that was my first pneumatic. Could be time to break out the hack saw and see if I can find a decibel meter for some research.

but what did you make the barrel and chamber from? i knwo steel but was it previously somthing els or did u got out and buy metal tubes or somthin?

So what you're telling me is that your 40psi of quieter combustion is stronger than my 120psi of air? I look at it this way......... I've got no "whoosh after the "pop" like my last pneumatic did. It is one solid "crack" report that is diminished slightly by a 7' longer barrel, over the 10' in stock form. What the two tell me is that I am dumping one instant pulse of air, and the projectile has reached maximum, or close to it, velocity at the end of 17'.

I'm dumping 120psi to less than 20 in one shot. The combustion hangs over my shop door like an old antique blunderbuss, and almost as destructive!

haymaker r u talking to me? coz i highly doubt mine is stronger than urs. maybe no after hybrid conversion but atm no way not a chance mines stronger than urs
