i made a carbide cannon a while back its fun to mess with. i use calcium carbide powder and it is much more explosive than rocks. its so loud if you get the right mixture.

Thanks for your concern CpTn. The chamber was made from sch 80 pvc wrapped in a couple layers of duct tape. (I was really safety conscious because of an article I read about a guys chamber exploding and blowing out his ear drums...) The cannon could withstand a large amount of pressure before failing, so I believe I was quite safe...

Where does one calcium carbide outside of exposing calcium oxide to an electric arc with carbon electrodes?
