First the mythbusters got a 5 gallon jug to 90 psi before it ruptured.
second, i would not recomend one for a pneumatic (i tryed and it burst between my legs), however it should be fine for a combustion.
Third, duct tape is a gift from god and in large quanties is extremely hard to destroy or tear.

Though I commend you on your praise of duct tape, what in the name of God were you doing holding a thin-walled, highly pressurized tank between your legs?

You smart ass noname, though that was funny.
It was in my youth (like 10 i think) when i did that, before i understood the concept of safety (and that a sharp piece of plastic shrapnel traveling at a high speed would not be good to my groins health) , and fortunantly the chunk blew out away from my groin. Since then i have been unwilling to test fire a cannon between my legs as you might have guessed.

Those water jugs hold us to pressure spikes very well. Ever seen them dropped when full of water? The times I've seen a full one hit the kitchen floor at work, they bounce like a ball! I don't know how much pressure is generated, but it's 5gal of water falling approx a meter.
I'd be more concerned about getting a tight fit for the barrel and how to secure the electrodes.
