Good point jack, but now I have a better idea.
Go to a $2 shop and buy somthing like this:

I used to be able to buy cheap versions of these for about $2. If you cut the end off the pump it would give you a good piston and a tube that it fits perfectly in. Best of all it should have fairly low drag.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

well i have 1" conduit, that 3/4" conduiit slides in like a glove. i was thinking of using that and possibly cutting a groove for an o ring in it.

Define a glove...

My electric tape slides in like a glove and it doesn't work well. USE AN O-RING! you'll be 10 times happier. no joke, no joke.

Ahh i think he's right indeed, he did say he was gong to use an O-ring :P :)
