Free float the receiver and get a thicker bull barrel, (usually along with a composite stock in a kit), and you'll have one damn accurate 10/22.

I'd personally go with the ruger 10/22.They are easily available and soundly built.My dad has a marlin which is okay but I really don't like it.The best .22 I've ever shot was a old antique winchester pump action.The kid who let me shoot it got it from his granddad.No matter how much I offered him he would not part with it.I have to admit I've never melded with a rifle like I did with that gun.

CZ makes some good stuff but they are expensive and going through a gun dealer will kill you with extra charges.Of course you can always get a military surplus trainer.They are cheap an fun to to plink with,but don't expect dead on accuracy, although some have been reported to be exceptionally made.The local gun shop should know where to get one.

my remington 597 can very easly hit a 1'' target at 75 yards, that is assuming that you can hit it. its very accurate.

the stock is the same one from a 30.06 they make, so its not for a little kid because the stock is to big. its just right for me. the barrel is also for a 30.06, but it is drilled out for .22. so the barrel is super thick for a .22.

i dont know why it has 30.06 parts on it, but it is super accurate. it comes in long rifle (LR) and magnum.

One of my friends got a Winchester Wildcat for his birthday a few days ago and hes pretty happy with it.

I've got a 10/22, had the trigger done.Reduced the trigger pull to2-3 #?
Not sure but reduced a bit. Factory setting is high. Easy to remove and clean.
I put a 3x9 scope on, not that it is set for long distance, just big sight picture.
Large tube scopes let in lots of light so that shooting in low light/night is easy. Amazing how well it works at night .

I think that it is said that it comes stock with a bit to much of trigger pull needed to fire but I have never had that problem. Its always a nice smooth pull to get that red mist. But anyway, do you know where he got that trigger upgrade? And or how much it cost?

Price range is a deciding factor, being able to build on it is another, then we get to tack driving accuracy. Are you going to be satisfied with a 4 to 6 inch group? I have a Marlin 882-VSS 22WMR that will literally punch nails through the target at 75 yards. A little larger that the rimfire but will anchor a Fox or Coyote
Ruger 10-22 heavy barrel is also a nice unit.
