Hmm, do they make portable air tanks that are smaller than those huge 5 gallon ones, you could fill that with a compressor, then fill your cannon from that, so you don't always have to be a few feet away from a compressor.
I've been thinking about maybe trying to make a portable air tank using an old fire extinguisher, but I'm afraid that I might end up exploding myself or something.

i made a tank out of a fire extinguisher and it is perfectly safe. mine is one of those little tanks, so i get about 3 shots with it on a small pneumatic. i find its not even worth it, but if you have a big one try it.

i have a 5 gal portable, holds 120psi, wont fill my chamber more than 40, it stops..

i used one of those pink helium tanks that you can get at party pig or similar(which i got for free from the neighbors trach heap) and drilled a hole and epoxyd a schrader valve in then added hoses onto theo nozzle and now i have a portable air tank thats about the size of a propane tank.

yea i use a bike pump to pump up my pneumatic to 150 - 200 PSI it works quit well

Fine, then go use the bike pump. When it get's old (it will) then you'll probably want a CO2 setup
