Quick question, sorta half relating to this topic, how would you make a sabot for a metal dart? would a plastic bag work? rag? something more complicated that would come off immediately upon exit from the barrel? Also, I was looking at some other supersonic threads, and they mention pulling a vacuum in the barrel, how could this be achieved?

That has nothing to do with this topic actually... But, I'll answer anyways since I really don't see why not, and my question has been answered.

What I would do, is spray down a section of pipe just like your barrel with Pam non stick spray. Then stick your dart into it and spray some of that "expanding foam" into the pipe to form a foam cylinder with a negative of your dart in it. Cut the foam cylinder in quarters when its fully cured. (24 hours) Re-assemble it so the dart is inside the foam sabot so when you fire the "shell" the foam separates from the dart and the dart goes flying.

Unfortunately, I don't really know much how to go about getting hold of helium.

Now, what I do know is that there are companies that will rent you out a big gas bottle full of whatever gas for so much a month, then swap it with a full one for a set fee when you've depleted it.

That's probably your top way of getting any specialist gas.

However, you'll need to research the cost of that in your local area.

Modder, ill take you down to the welding shop so you can look at helium tanks, they sell it as sheilding gas, and next time i see him ill talk to him about doing that welding for you.

Lawnmower is broken, I plan on melting it down and making cannon balls.

Does the engine not work? cause if so, ill take it off your hands, fix it, and use it to build a go kart.

Actually, I'm very tempted to try raiding the local tip for a lawnmower and trying that...

The engine is what I'm melting down.
