Tell them that it doesn't explode and it insteads creates a chemical change and the propane turns into hot gas.

Sorry are you trying to convince your parents that a combustion and/or hybrid isn't an bomb/explosive? Of course it is - It is just a controlled(hopefully) version!

Surely that is exactly what happens in a combustion/hybrid?!

The only difference between say a pipe bomb and a Spudgun is that a Spudgun channels the energy out through the barrel. Let's say you put nails into it and left it a public place. I'd love to hear you explain to the police why it isn't a bomb.

It is a bomb, but you need to make your parents believe its all not very dangerous.

I suggest you building a pneumatic. And then i mean: a POWERFUL pneumatic thats WAY WAY WAY more powerful then any of your combustions.

Show em that and let them choose:
-Burning Propane, launching a spud fast
-Releasing air pressure, launching a spud REALLY REALLY FAST

Just show them pneumatics are more powerful and they might do one of the following things:
-They understand the burning of propane (call it burning, not exploding) is less weak then some air pressure and allow you to build comusitons.
-Get angry and forbid pneumatics too since they are even more powerful then a explosion.

well, i would walk up to my mom with a propane torch, light it, then say " doesn't look like it exploded on me"

Well, technicaly your hybrid can be a "bomb".
Have you shown anyone the official letter from the ATF yet? It says potato guns are not classified as weapons or DDs, (unless you commit a crime with them, or they are against your city limits laws).

I would either wait it out, or attempt the impossible(silencer on a hybrid).

Do you have any friends houses to shoot at?

Yes! Build a fusion reactor in your basement! It will scare the crap out of everyone and convince them to let you build cannons again (the best part is, a reactor isn't that dangerous at all, save for risks of radiation exposure, which can be easily avoided).

EditEdit: before anyone else links me to the radioactive boyscout please know that fusion reactors are the complete opposite of fission reactors and therefore the story does not apply. X-rays are also NOT persistance radiation.
