All the same acetylene is nothing to mess around with, but it's ok to talk about here.

ABS and Acetylene... talk about playing with matches.
Worst thing about that video was that it was built by a teacher...
I think I may email him or something. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the video.

As dumb as it was to build an acetylene cannon out of ABS, you have to admit, that is one awesome professor. I like that one girl screaming, it was funny.

Frank, if you make a carbide cannon out of that, I think I might just have to come over there and hug you, cause you'll be my hero.

On one of my cannons some 260psi rated PVC blew at 100psi, me and two friends were within 2feet of it when it blew up at waist height and no one got hurt, not even a scratch. :shock:

i have a carbide cannon. i never bothered posting it because i new there would be some discrepancy over calcium carbide. its pretty cool because you can pour out somebangsite
hold a lighter up to it and nothing will happen however when you mix it with water in a cannon it makes a very nice boom and shoots crab apples pretty far

Our hobby straddles a very thin line in the eyes of many. What we are tying to avoid here is any more possible negative publicity, so we can have fun with our hobby in peace and safety!

@altxf4

Well said. :D I left a nice comment on a google vid of a guy getting shot MULTIPLE times with a spudgun. It's morons like that that make this hobby so controversial. :evil:

Spudbud, are you incapable of using your brain? Calcium carbide is most certainly not a solid propellent, and I'm tired of people acting like they know what there talking about and saying it is. All it does is release acetylene gas, which is a gaseous propellent. A solid propellent would mean the solid actually deflagrates, wich CaC3 does not.

@iPaintball; i believe some of your information in the post above is wrong

Calcium Carbide: CaC2

not CaC3 like you said.

i know you ment to say CaC2 but yer ya know wrong information can sometimes confuse people that don't know a lot about these kinds of things
