yea, you've never see someone start a car like that? the wheel turns the motor over and it starts right up.

I would suggest a spindle drive and either having it mounted on a hinge or have an engine that has a centrifugal clutch. That way you can disengage the engine from the wheel. For the spindle, you can either machine it from bar stock...or just use a bike peg like 90% of the people.
Hooking a throttle up will be easy, just remove the old throttle and replace it with a bike brake lever and cable.
I'd highly suggest using a 12in scooter for this though. A bike will go to slow and not have much room for the stuff without mounting it high.

may i just point out that if you use a spindle drive set up like how you said, push starting would not be an option, if you did it would just roll and not turn the engine over.

any idea on what size of sprockets i should use? i live in an area with pretty steep hills. i will have 12in wheels .

very very little on the clutch, and as big as you can go on the wheel, trust me ive done this before i ran a 12-74 and it still only just pulled uphill, if you make it to where i did you will realize that a chainsaw motor is the only way to go

nope ya dont need one with a centrifugal clutch, simple give it a few thousand rpm and it will engage

so to kick start the motor i engage the clutch but the motor has to be spinning at several thousand rpms for the clutch to engage? so is a centrifigul clutch the way to go or is there something else?

Actually chaos you are wrong, you can push start with a spindle. Go peds are motor scooters that only have spindle drives and the way you start them is by running and jumping on then give it gas. If you used a chain on a bike you could only start it if you were peddling because otherwise it wouldn't spin the chain if it were just coasting. But what's the problem with just using the pull start it's not that hard.

well i got the motor for free and and the return coil thing that pulls the cord back in is broke and to be honest i dont want to fix that.

Ok then yeah you could definetly start it that way. What kind of motor is it? And What do you plan to mount it on a bike or a scooter.

it is a featherlite weedeater i think something on the kines of 21cc i am not exactly sure.i plane on putting it on a kids bike with 10 or 12 inch tires or one of these. what do you think?

well you willl have to have a setup that will allow you to use pedals and the motor so a spindle might be easiest. I wouldn't plan on going very fast though if thats what you're thinking. 15mph tops probably.

how big of an engine do you think i will need to go about 25 mph? the maximum weight will be 180 pounds.

Well I guess you could get it to go 25mph but you would have to use gear ratios and stuff so you couldn't use a friction drive. Honestly if you can spare like 60-70 bucks then I would just buy a chainsaw off ebay. I got a 40cc one off ebay for 55 bucks with shipping 3 days ago and I'm mounting that onto my bike.
