Ah nice clear schematic dewey-1 !
Indeed, and the arming switch is a nice touch!
I reckon the steel post PetitLu is shooting at is harder to penetrate than a flat plate of the same metal and thickness.
I would say the opposite, it's rigidly supported by the nature of the structure and therefore is less likely to deform and absorb the blow.

Dewey-1 thank you very much!

For testing I will have a steel profile plate steel where a 10mm!

In fact, as I now do not load the gun through the mouth, I can not fire bullets jacketed?

What do you mean by jacketed?

Do you mean you want to fire real bullets through a rifled barrel? Most people here think that even a lead bullet would provide too much friction to be rifled in a gun barrel but I've never asked if it was possible at 40x, only 10x.

I assume that's what you're asking about anyway, if not I apologise.

Well, I shoot real bullet but has already lead ...
My barrel is a cal.50 rifled !

I don't think a jacketed bullet would be compatible with your barrel - unless you use sabots ;)

Surely you can buy these in France?

But those are polymer tips right ? Even though the bullet is jacketed that wouldn't be best for penetrating steel plate would it ?

If using a sabot you may as well just go for a solid steel projectile no ? At this close range flight characteristics shouldn't really come into effect.

Just beware of possible ricochets !
I would say the opposite,
I agree that a supported target dissipates less energy, but in this particular case looking at the relative size of the projectile vs the width of the rectangular tube, I'm not so sure. If it were just a bit wider I'd definitely agree.

Or... I have the sneaky feeling Petitlu can get hold of some tungsten rods :D I think at least a one off sabot+tungsten dart shot is in order !

the end the polymer is yes and the ball is expansive, more for hunting ...
With a shoe you can put almost anything you want it! a steel bullet ... :D

"sabot+tungsten dart"

Can you get something like this?

:D

We could make fins for it...

I would surmise that the less wide the tube is, the less distance it is away from the support of the corners and therefore less likely to deform.

Ah well, I hope to have time to make some sabots and send them over to Petitlu before the Easter holidays :D
