taken apart or still assembled ?
That would be a good test, I don't know of the requirements to do so, but from what I can remember its usually a bragging right of the big guns (actual guns)

Perhaps if you phrased it more like "I'm going to be performing impact analysis on vehicle and building models" it wouldn't sound so terrorist-y
I on the other hand do have a beater car that is already paid for i.e. net zero expenditure (the scrap value is worth more than we paid for it, and it runs to boot!). I'll eventually be shooting APFSDS style rounds at it to test penetration performance on the standard 1992 cutlass ciera. Hopefully she'll stay around long enough to feel what 100KJ feels like
And how can you not have ammo? just shove something down the barrel and have at it!

MrCrowley, isnt posting instructables like that, likely to get you sued? Eventually some kid is going to make a GB gun from DWV and cell core pipe, and their lawyer cousin is going to decide that you should be sued.

Can't remember if I put a disclaimer on the instructable or not, regardless, I'm not worried. Worse they could do is sue me while I'm in NZ and they're in the U.S. and I just ignore it and poke my tongue at them from the other side of the world

Like Gun Freak im in the process of designing a lathe. Mine is only going to turn HPDE, Wood, and possible PVC. Any suggestions on a motor, prefarably one that the pulleys can be a 1 to 1 ratio, Im not really looking for variable speed. The frame is just going to be 2x4's, with hopefull room to turn something up to 1.5 inches thick and 10 inches long. Im thinking in the range of 1/4 to 1/3 HP.

My lathe is for turning the same stuff as yours. Not sure on the hp of my motor though, I couldn't find it online. I know it's pretty friggin strong though. I'd reccomend scavenging a motor. A ton of people throw good ones out unknowingly.
And the current state of my design. Still need to draw the tool holder (movable on x and y) and the new chuck (linked). If anyone was wondering, the fitting I wanted machined in the Machinist thread was for the chuck.

Havent seen many chuckes attached directly to the motor, any problems with that? Im thinking of using a drill chuck and just putting a bolt into the end of what ever I want to turn.

Thats a decent chuck, but IMHO - 6" is a bit ambitious for something made from wood? a 3" would be more than enough for most small stuff, and run less of a risk on your part. The lathe I just got and rebuilt only has a 3" lathe, and let me tell you if the bit caught wrong on something being cut (even plastic!) I wouldnt want the chuck assembly to be held in by wood, much less the tooling holder!
Just trying to look out for your safety.
