Well... I can picture it that way...

1) approach the (paper of course!) target yelling at it!
2) stab stab stab!
3) run away!
4) sudden turn and shoot!
5) run some more as you're now virtually defenseless...

Could work well! (better practice your paper stabbing without witnesses if you don't want to visit an asylum)

Apparently Spetznaz troops carry spare blades for their knives. Or cartridges.

This one I found in my grand father attic, long ago.
It is in poor condition, the steel don't seem to be very good and badly sharpened. But it's sharpen all right!

I'm curious if someone could tell me from where this particular knife came from?
It doesn't seem to be production knife, very irregular, but the leather scabbard and the metal wire detail on the handle doesn't look like a crude homemade knife (granpa was a stone cutter BTW, but I don't think this is related to his profession)

that looks beautifull knife, resharp the blade, recover the handle and buff the bolsters and its gonna be good as new

But i made a blade today... from 1.5% carbonsteel !. Sadly, it cracked during the quensh, i think ill "do BTBs to the blade" tomorrow



It cracked from the beginning so ill lose like 5-10cm blade lenght, not much for this long blade...

Was that a file originally?

I've heard if you have sharp angles ground out before the quench, it can create high-stress areas. When I made that big hunting knife I tried to make everything as round as I could reasonably get it, and did the final blade edge angle afterwards.

yeah iv heard that, and yeah it was old russian file. the blade was straight but as normal, i differential heat trieted it. So lots of stress was developed to the cutting edge.

It curved that much from quenching? Wow. At first I thought you either ground the curve out, or just got it glowing and hammered the crap out of the blade edge side.

With a file, I'd go over the spine with a torch after a normal quench. As I've discovered, even a spine that's been heated orange and air-cooled can still destroy nice bandsaw blade.

yeah fnord, it curved that much . im stupid, i was very exited about the blade and quenched it in water cause my normal oiltank was too small for this and i didint want to wait like 20mins to build bigger . but it was a great test, it showed that i dont have to use clay when making japanese styled blades to get the right curve. Its summervacation in 2 weeks so i have plenty of time making knifes and swords. actually i have like 6 orders to make till mid july, so im busy. my goal was to forge a traditional viking sword from 6 damascus bars, but well see if i have enough time to make that

Im kicking the thread up, cause i make knifes more than spudguns im now presenting you a new puukko, that iv just finished. I guess you have seen that my knifes are alway puukko's, cause thats the traditional knife here. In finland almost every kid under 5 years old have used a puukko, so you see that we love them

so heres the new one, the blade is 78mm long, 18mm wide and 5mm thick, made from silversteel (bohler k560), the handle is teak, bolsters are 3mm brass and as always, birchbarn between the bolster and teak. Thats because when the wood "lives" the bircbarn flexes and the wood doesnt 't crack. Shief is coming, ill do it from 3.5mm leather. enough talking, here she is



i might need to "smooth" the handle end under the blade, the "wave" just stops

What is this mark in the blade? Your brand?

yeah, its my own makers mark, it was paint to make its hot stamp, hstamped to the blade when its appr. 1000c hot, the mark tells you that in the making process the blade has been hot you want to get a picture of it?

that puukko has taken me appr 7 hours of work now, and few more to the sheath


in few days il make another puukko ready, the blade is same desing as that one, but bolsters are 7mm bronze and the handle is super grade gurly birch, its going to be awesome!
