mokume gane is something I have tried (and failed) to make in the past, when you make it take lots of pics of the process it would be quite interesting to see the process you follow...

very very nice jake!
That looks like it'll last a lifetime
How sharp is it now? what sort of handle are you going to put on it?

Not sharp enough

i'm gonna use EXTRA fine polishing compound tomorrow and buff it, hopefully it would be sharp enough then
Handle is going to be walnut, some leather and brass, maybe some nickel silver.
So traditional Finnish puukko, shieth is from bullhide, black or brown, i dont know yet

What is your measure of sharpness? Do you have some standard test like being able to split a piece of paper in half down the thickness?
Edit: I'm sure a fair number of you know about MegaUpload, well
the owner was just arrested in NZ.
Says he lived in Coatesville, about 25 minutes from me. There are some big mansions out there. Just realised that the guy who owns MegaUpload is Germany's
Kim Schmitz, he got some media coverage over here when he moved to NZ and bought the most expensive house in NZ.

He wants it sharp enough so that if JSR drops it point down, it'll fall to the center of the earth
Out of curiosity jake, how steep is the blade angle on that thing?.

Fnord: hard to say

this has the basic angle of a puukko, great for woodworking and skinning. I do everything by "feeling" it. I really dont know the exact temperature of the blade when i heat treat it. Just by looking at the blades colors i know if its ready for quench. This isnt so easy to learn
