You're the artist, I'm curious to see how you would design it. In my relatively inexperienced view, it should have a symmetrical profile and generally be quite thick to resist bending on impact.

Some strateginally placed lightening holes in the blade vaguely along these lines would be cool too:



They would cut down some weight without compromising structural integrity, push the centre of pressure towards the read thus making it more stable in flight, and of course look fuçking awesome

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with I'm going to request a specification change though, can the blade length be shortened to 3 inches? There's legislation in epoxyland about public carry of blades longer than 80mm, I don't want to attract any undue attention when it comes through the mail.

EDIT: now i can improve the desing, and i can sand it better, my belt sander is only 4" wide. i have a great idea of getting it front heavy, iv used this when making seaxes and big leukus

How much would a laminated 15 cm blade with a 10 cm tang set me back?

depends on materials and bladestyle. but lets we can start from 60€. its alot but laminating a good blade is hard work.

8cm... Wow you epoxylanders are weak. I couldn't find a good spring so I did some work on this. It's a bowie... Bit over 10" blade, should be 15" OAL when complete. 7mm hardened spring steel, forged flat and ground.

Still isn't much for a custom knive.
How about a non-laminated version? i'm looking for a nice fixed blade knive, but commercial knives don't attract me...

I'm allowed to carry a knive with a total length of no more than 28 cm. (11")
When i'm going to school I take a 8" knive with me. It's very practical, the teachers frequently ask me if they can use it

Lab: you see, when making laminated blade, its very importatnt that you make it with time. you clean the steel well, you heat it slowly, you use lot of borax, you hammer it gently. there is lot to go wrong. its like 3 hour work to just laminate and forge the blade. But it depends on the material you want, and the bladestyle. normally with puukko blades, i start from 25€ and there is only a way up

Here it's 80mm, otherwise you need a license to carry it in public - unless you can reasonably prove that you use it for your job.

It's only an issue if someone gets in a fight though, I remember a friend of mine bringing his father's 1942 british army machete to school

JSR, how long tang you want? do you want it threaded or are you going to epoxy it to place?

I can't believe the day would come that I would say this but threaded would be better, doesn't need to be too long - 10-15mm is more than enough.
