I'd avoid the whole preplanned speech you shouldn't say it unless they ask, mainly just say "i bought them for my _____ project because all the good fittings are too expensive in NZ"

And if that doesn't work shout ''durk durka la mohammed jihad, ahk hakabihad! jihad! jihad!'' and run away lol

I bet you've already gone by now but I agree with iknowmy3tables. Tell them the truth, say its for a project and the parts are much cheaper in US compared to NZ. If they ask what the project is then maybe you could bend the truth a little.

Gepard wrote:But if BB guns are banned, I can't see them allowing a 16yo to make an air cannon.......
I'm not Australian, BB guns are fine here.
Pete your idea really only works in the US like you said, I doubt I will get any trouble in the US as they don't check your bags as you check in.
In NZ if I said I was making an Air Cannon I would get a nice hefty fine, it's illegal for me until i'm 18.
I doubt they will take me into a room, just ask on the spot, pull me to the side type thing. I will just say i'm using it for a hydraulic system, if they ask more I will tell them more.
And yeah i was thinking of doing a few sketches but I don't have a printer, can't be bothered and I doubt it will matter.
Just spent $50 at Ace yesterday and today, so that brings the total to:
Home Depot: $220USD
McMaster: $60USD
Ace: $50USD
Total: $330USD
I'm even more happy that I now have a QEV
I should be working on 6 guns when I get back.
SGA: replacing the end cap, adding sprinkler valve pilot, re-touch with paint
Dam Buster: Finally fixing the piston and pilot setup
New Co-ax BB gun
New Simple PB Gun
New Simple GB Gun
New all metal shotgun type gun
Edit:
Gepard wrote:Say you need PVC tube/sheet and imperial pipe is the right thickness....
Otherwise won't they just ask you why your not using metric?
Metric fittings and imperial fittings are both the same, they can be both used together, who would care about the thickness anyway? Just sounds pointless. They probably wont even know the difference nor care if it was metric or imperial.
I'm not going to tell them it's a cannon guys, even if I bend the truth slightly it could be suspicious, i'm not even going to tell them it involves air pressure unless I have to.
I'm gonnas stick to hydraulics. If they ask more about it, I will go slightly in depth with the car brake thing, and say i'm replacing foot pressure with air pressure and they should leave me at that, they can't really do much about it if I play my cards right.

Sweet go McCrowley. Ok in my opinion Ace is about 50 million times better than home depot which do you like better. PS you still have to go to an Osh, there an irrigation store so they have great stuff.

Ace has sh|t loads for how small it is, but it's a tad unorganized and has less stock then an HD. Don't have time to go to an OSH, got no car, we dropped it off the other day.

Just keep a straight face and just say that it's in your bag because you bought it. Seriously, I highly doubt that they're going to nut up at yo just for having pipes and plumbing supplies in your bag. It's nothing illegal right?
So they can't do Shiite.

I by far, like this idea the best.
A word of advice, when you are talking to the agent, get enthusiastic and tell him a lot about it

im also going to agree with the cheaper in america approach at least for part of it.. then like everyone else seems to agree on if needed go more in depth with the hydraulics thing you came up with. good luck, and can't wait to see your cannons.

Nothing personal, I just have a thing for religions in general

sorry for the stereotyping but you have to admit that it's more common to hear suicide bombers chant "
Allah hu akhbar" than "Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!", one can't help but make a small association...

If you were reffering to me using the phrase,
"They Can't do Shiite".
I'm not using it as racism. I use that as a phrase instead of saying "They can't do shit".
Because all though I tried to say Sh*T I can't because of swearing censor. If I want to say F*ck it will go Fuck. Shiite is the closest word I know to Sh*t.
I am very sorry for any inconveniences etc. I may have caused.
I mean i could have said shit, but then again nearly everyone on this forum is trying to find out new ways to sneakily swear.
Sorry if i insulted you.

Unless of course he's a Sunni muslim, from what's happening in Iraq right now it looks like Sunnis and Shiites get on like a house on fire
