There's a small chance the current will weld the contacts together, but i've used one like that in a coil gun, and had no problems whatsoever.

Ok, i use this EXACT method for my Ghetto Combustion Gun and it works great. Using more than one or two AA batteries will fry the transformer but one 9v works great, one AA has about the same amp's as a 9v so a 9v won't damage the circuit as long as you don't overcharge the circuit.
The wool will throw off hot flaming pieces of wool, just don't use a realy big piece, a small ball should work just fine.
The only problem is that the flip switch between the wool and capacitor might weld itself shut.
