I would say mildly improbable with marbles, they don't fly very straight. It would be possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

But if I were to, say, rifle a pvc barrel and make custom hollow tailed iron or steel slugs at 150psi you think that is easy enough to get? How much on average would it drop over that distance?

It depends on the velocity and ballistic coefficient. I would expect such slugs (no need for rifling if they're hollow-tailed) top start out relatively slow, but not lose much velocity over 40 yards, so the drop would be less than a foot from the centreline of the barrel. If you zeroed your scope for that distance, there would be no need to compensate for drop.

yeah, I measured the distance today and it was actually about 34 yards. I dont see why a six inch spread at 40 yards is so unbelievable though, six inches isnt too accurate to begin with. too bad my barrel is bent now due to leaning against a wall for too long. As for the drop, I havent checked. It is impossible to see the marble in flight, but I guess I could do some tests at different distances to check it.

then again, maybe it was just 6 lucky shots.

Heh, finally found what I was looking for. This gun is exactly what I'm making at the moment, except I'm using pressure rated tubing to put the blowgun in the back of the stock (my gun is much smaller, 3/4 inch.) Almost exactly like yours, sounded like a good plan, and an easy way to aim. Have you found a way to mount a laser pointer on to the gun?

Why not just buy a cheap adjustable sight like this one from ebay and epoxy a 20mm wide metal plate to your launcher?


That way you'll have a professional looking sight that you can actually calibrate according to the fall of shot.

Ah, but how are you going to zero it?

*sigh*, no idea. I'm mainly trying to avoid taping it to the barrel. Or, I also could glue it onto one of my old Daisy scopes for airsoft guns, like this one: http://rodan.no/images/8047809.jpg. Also, using that one I could mount it to a metal plate, or one of those racks that is put on airsoft guns for attachments.
