Thats the speed of your network connection, not your internet connection.
Most modern networks even use 100.0 Mbps.

On that note I'm actually using a network-over-mains system which has replaced my infuriating wireless system for which I'd tried two adapters and a wireless card before giving up on.
It's rated at 85mbps which is only likely if you're using two power sockets next to each other.
I get a network speed of around 40mbps about 30 metres and who knows how many metres of power cabling away.
Anyway it beats wireless hands down and was vastly easier to rig up than a lan cable snaking across four busy rooms.

The only thing you have to worry about that kind of connection is impedance issues.

I can't actually notice anything between a direct link to the router and through the power connection.
I'm getting the full 2mb download and 0.2 upload speeds and ping is pretty much the same.
I'd recommend it over wireless any day.
