Sad but true, unfortunately we're abusing our ability to spite Darwin.

i know what you mean, but i live in a small town where a lot of the kids hunt and most of the guys are in shop class (wood, welding, ROP, or intro to ag). sometimes people do get lost when i talk to them, but most know how to jump start a car or shoot a gun or glue wood together or weld, that kind of thing. even alot of the girls can do that stuff to.

now there are some people like you are describing, but for the most part all of the people i talk with have a basic understanding of very basic hardware. there are some that i get very frustrated with, but most of the time i simply avoid them.

ps- when i say a small school, i mean about 500 kids 9th-12th grade.

Sheesh! Things sure change. The school I went to had ~350 students. Grades 1 through 12. (rural school of course) And it was one of the larger ones in the area.

Wow your schools are small. My school had over 1000 grades 10 through 12. Just for a quick refresher Idiotacrcy was the movie were they travel into the future. And the thing I remember is the giant costco. Is this the right movie or I am thinking of something different.

I wouldn't recommend it, the supreme irony here is that intro aside, it's actually quite a dumb movie  :D

Haha, I do film television and new media as a subject. My teacher always tells us not to be brainwashed by the media, because the power of the media through the use codes and conventions is what ruins contemporary society's mind.

And I feel that our government is find us to becoming less and less trustworthy. Youth allowance in Australia back 10 years ago, once you get it, you get it that's it. Meaning that once you apply for it you get it no questions asked, but all you have to do is that if you start working you have to let the government know (they call the finance thing in Australia Centerlink) that you started working then bam, they'll cut it off, but that's fair.

But now I'm only 16, don't even had a job and I only got my youth allowance 3months ago and they've sent me a letter asking for my parent's current income from three years ago, which I filled out in my original application. Which I find plain stupid we've already stated what our income was, whats the point asking for it again?

I feel as the government is becoming more corrupt then it already has been.
The reason why contemporary society has been brainwashed through the media, is more so gullibility and susceptibility, rather than the use of codes and conventions. While they do help, in actuality, it's the contemporary society's ignorance and nescience within this area.

Also, government has felt that way. Your benightedness also pisses me off, but, hey, you're only 16. Though, I guess that's hypocritical of me as well, as I, too, am only 16.

Youth Allowance has never been that way, not as far as I, or my parents are aware. Youth allowance is something you receive when your family earns a wage which the government considers to be insufficient for you and your family to live whilst paying bills, mortgage and other various expenses. So, therefore, Youth Allowance is not cut off once you start working. It's cut off when the family is earning what is considered to be adequate.

Also, people lose records. It's a busy world. Your income may have changed. Most families' income rise every couple years or so. That could be a possible explanation.

Also, it's Centrelink*, not Centerlink. You call yourself Australia. ************* you :(. Anyway, no hard feelings.

Yours truly

that must be a good feeling knowin that if ur town blacked out or went off the grid the people would hold their own and not freak out in an ignorant rage. if my town blacked out there would be looting, murder, and people being stupid. and when they see that my family still have crude light (etc) they would kill us and steal it instead of learning from us how to do it themselves.

ignorance is a scary thing in big portions.

Not necessarily. In fact, rarely does one choose to be ignorant. If you're choosing to be ignorant, then in actuality, you must be aware of "whatever it is". Ignorance is an attribute/characteristic that comes naturally. You can't choose whether you want to be or not. Though, what you can do, is learn more about whatever it is that you're ignorant about.

u kinda proved my point and contradicted urself with ur last sentence.

ignorance is the choice to not learn or be aware of something. if i don't wanna know how to tie my shoes than i'm being ignorant to something that is very useful. everyone is aware that things work but most just don't care how. they pay others for that.

ur thinking about IQ.

even babies are observant and choose to learn and their IQ is like 1. to them it's fun. just like the people on this forum. we love to learn. it's all about where ur passion is. if the world around u doesn't interest u than u won't choose to learn about it. if fashion or getting laid is ur passion than that's where ur brain power goes even if there isn't much brain power to work with.

ignorance is a choice.

Learning's is fun isn't it? :D

so true. it's cool though. that's why i'm gonna have kids in Russia. their school system is awesome. they have a 3 or 4 language standard and they r always like 10 grade levels above my American schools.

i want my kids to come back to America, go to Yale and embarrass them all.

i want them so smart that i won't know what the hell they're talking about.

Alot of this comes from ignorance, pure ignorance. I was watching this video on youtube of a Tsunami in Indonesia or something (i forgot where). The person videoing was saying stuff in another language and there was a comment which said
"Why is he speaking gibberish?" ITS CALLED THAI.
Australia isnt as bad as the US in these kind of things (Im judging from comments from people in the USA.) Maybe its just our Australian culture. For some reason all the ads on TV portray us as all "adventuous" 0.o

oh and i-will, babies do not have IQs of 1. You need an IQ of like 20 to breath, pump blood around your body and digest food etc etc

I know I know who it is! The person who incidentally had the same IP address as I did :S.

Anyway to the topic of ignorance...

There are probably social groups in society that are ignorant, for example, I believe racist / redneck groups of people are ignorant. And a good movie that exploits or this is Harold and Kumar. In the first movie, the cop was a good example. Quoting "Kumarrr.... What is that 5 Os and 2 Us". It has alot of racist elements in it which is then representing the US as ignorant, which was a purposeful decision by the director.

BTW, If Harold and Kumar weren't from ethnic minority groups those movies would of cause much controversy.
