That's what I had in mind when I said:
Not quite off the shelf but there are for example solenoid powered nailguns that could provide cheap parts.
Have the solenoid striking the stem of a blowgun (with the trigger removed) and you should be sorted.

Why both having it strike anything, just use the solenoid as a valve itself (think of it like a blow forward system, but soelnoid not air powered. Squeeze trigger hollow solenoid bolt shoots forward releasing gas down barrel and also closing off magazine.

Simple.

No, more like the one I just posted above, far fewer leak opportunities, but the same basic principle yes.

Ahhhh, now I get it, hadn't realised where the pressure was in your diagram

That really does look like a good idea.

Did you mean THIS one?

Only downside is that it's mains powered, the ideal would be battery, with a compressed air/CO2 tank, otherwise you're fixed to the power socket.

Mind you solenoids aren't that expensive to buy anyway, or just rip one out of the central locking on a scrap car.

How about this then?

still they cost as much as a solenoid valve... mind you that you can reuse a spool valve for your next projects...

I am not saying this because I am obsessed with spool valve - that's just becasue I am obsessed with practicality...

They do you're right, but then they do come with a whole host of extra features, like a rechargeable battery, and a trigger, and a grip and a hand guard and a plastic casing and ... and ...

All of which could be used in making a solenoid air gun.
