I had a quick try putting some pressure, but unlike what I thought the pressure leak around the central spring plug, not from inside (it is a tube on my quick connect, so I guessed it wrong).
So a sort of seal with a O-Ring or a washer is mandatory, and maybe a complete replacement of the internal mechanism, just keeping the ball locking. After all that's the most complicated part to build.
My first guess would be to drill through, and make something close to the left side of my previous drawings. A cooper tubing epoxied there (Yeah!) and a O-ring that touch the ball.
Maybe some other model of Quick-Connect would be more appropriate, as I have another one that doesn't look exactly the same inside.

Instead of an o-ring, see if you could find a v- or w-ring. That way, the pressure would help push the seal against the ball (sorry, I'm at work and can't draw a picture right now).

I would be interested to see how they look like... can't find them at McMasterCarr, and never see those kind at HomeDepot and similar stores.

For those interest by the idea of using a quick coupling, I am most pleased to announce that a 3/8" coupling is a perfect fit for the .56 ammo I want to use...
So laziness will certainly win, and at some point in time I'll try to convert a coupling to a trigger instead of making one from scratch
