good job BTB ,very good way to pilot the gun. :puke:
this valve is a beast for the high pressures that blow gun can't handle
and BTB can you put a good picture for the the rod and the o ring install this will help a lot
and i have question, does the performance be deferent if u use
1.modified blow gun
2.hammer valve
3. or this concept
to pilot the piston valve

This is not really worth a new post so I post it here in BtBs original.
It's a 1/4" brass tee with two plugs, drilled to 8mm (polished inside with 500 grain sandpaper).
The middle rod was a hell lot of work because I made it on my drill press, only using three kind of metal files.
The total performance is overwhelming. The rod doesn't move a bit even at 250 psi but you can still actuate it with one finger.
This valve is not intended to be hammered, it's just a pilot.

nice, i made a similar thing to this except well bigger. and i use it to vent my 700psi bearing cannon at full pressure with no problems. and i know what you mean about almost no pressure on the trigger, ive had people complain about the extremly low trigger pressure

Nice work MRR, looking forward to a video of it working. That bolt looks a wee bit uncomfortable though. What gun might it be going to pilot?

Well you can always add a spring return externally, and then it could serve as a hammer valve.

@Lentamentalisk The problem is that I've made a mistake. The right side of the rod is the exhaust and I grinded it flat instead of a cone form. After venting it often get stuck at the edge and doesn't seal.

oops. I see what you mean...
You may be able to round it a little, or add some angled struts. Also, you could give it a guide hole to go through, with some sort of external mount, too keep it in line.
Or, is there any way you could switch that around by loosening on of the nuts? The left side looks nicely beveled.

MRR I like your how-to's a lot. Just a quick question though, where do you get your brass fittings from? It seems like you are stockpiled with them. And Have you considred making an over/under with this valve?

Well, the valve is certainly fast enough for a small plinker but I built it to pilot a new project of mine. On the other hand, as far as I know nobody used this design as a main valve before.
Most of the fittings that I use are from a friend who has a plumbing firm and everything else from a small hardware store with an incredible variety of brass fittings.

I have...works fine but the space the rod takes up bothered me.It means you have to have a bigger fitting around it to lead the air past the nut into the barrel.THe nut prevents full porting, unless it is located in a Tee...
When I save up some for aluminium round bar I will make an inline version of this to go into the chamber..It seems to be a good way of getting a multishot hammer valve with extreme porting, but with minimal hammer force...
MRR, that's a VERY good looking version you made there!!!
I am so glad this design has inspired people!!
You could use a cap-nut not make it more comfortable.

Hmm, now that you say it.... it's not such a big step to a 3 way.

I think this valve has tremendous potential. I'd like to draw it to machine from billet aluminum and redesign it to have a full unrestricted .500" dia flow (@1000psi if possible). If I do it....I'd give you a copy of the drawings. Would you have any problem with that?
